Riviera Maya: A paradise for investors

In the Riviera Maya, tourism numbers are on the rise and demand is outstripping supply. Today, according to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Mexico is the eighth most popular vacation destination in the world, and Cancun and the Riviera Maya are the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Therefore, buying property in this growing area has proven to be a sound and smart investment strategy.


And of course, this unparalleled region stretches for more than 80 miles along the turquoise waters of the Caribbean coast. Its climate is perfect, with 300 days of summer and a year-round average of 85 degrees. Its location south of the Cancun International Airport offers easy access for millions of annual visitors from around the world. It is home to award-winning beaches and tourist attractions such as Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. Add to all this world-class shopping and dining, water activities, and unforgettable adventures and you have a magical place like no other.


Investing in Riviera Maya real estate was very easy and quite affordable for my wife and me. When we started looking for a place to buy we realized all the advantages that the Riviera Maya has for both tourists and investors. So I want to share with you the reasons and benefits that make this region a great place to invest.


Like many of us, we first came to the Riviera Maya on a getaway weekend. So we experienced this first hand. We rented a very popular condo online for the weekend and, during our stay, started talking to some locals and expats. The condo was full and it was not high season. So we wondered if there was some kind of event that we didn't know about. We were told that the average occupancy rate is 85%, which we were able to confirm at the time and can still see it today. Eighty-five percent is pretty impressive even for a top vacation destination.


In the Riviera Maya, rental demand is high year round, and future projections show continued growth, which is beneficial if you intend to rent your property short or long term. By investing in a rental property, you can enjoy appreciation in the value of your property over time, while benefiting from monthly cash flows.
